Events and Outings

The Short List: Sep 15-17

I don’t know about you, but I am loving everything about these late summer days! Crisp mornings, warm afternoons and seeing the sunset just a bit earlier each evening make for the loveliest transition into the fall season. While it looks like rain is moving in on Sunday (and we sure do need it!), Friday and Saturday look just about right for some outdoor fun. Here are a few things we’re considering:

All Weekend

Stammtisch 2017 Oktoberfest

If you love a good Oktoberfest celebration but don’t want to venture to Mt. Angel this weekend, Stammtisch has you covered!  They will be transforming the block into its very own Bavarian beer garden, complete with long wooden Oktoberfest tables they brought over from Munich, a huge BBQ, games, German music and 10 Oktoberfest biers on draft. This is a kid-friendly event! Did somebody say, “GIANT Jenga and GIANT pretzels”? We’re there! The outdoor celebration is open to the public from 3-10pm on Friday and noon-10pm on Sat-Sun. Sep 16-17

Portland Mini Maker Faire

Is there a mini maker in your family? Head to OMSI this weekend and let them meet their people and get inspired! Maker Faire is the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth—a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the Maker Movement. It’s a place where people show what they are making, and share what they are learning. Makers range from tech enthusiasts to crafters to homesteaders to scientists to garage tinkerers. They are of all ages and backgrounds. The aim of Maker Faire is to entertain, inform, connect and grow this community. OMSI, 9:30-5:30. $10-$16, nwkidsmagazine.com/events

Umi Noodle Luge at St. John’s Farmers Market

Practice your chopstick skills and fill your bellies with delicious noodles and veggies! The Noodle Luge first premiered last summer at the King Farmers Market and this time will be popping up at St. John’s Farmers Market in partnership with New Seasons Market University Park, who will run an interactive noodle bar with sauce and toppings! The event is free, but they will also be selling family-sized noodle packs and donating a portion of proceeds to the market. St. John’s Plaza 10am-1pm (the market runs from 9-2). Legos @ the Library

With rain in the forecast, we are looking at a few indoor options for Sunday! Does your 5-11 year old live and breathe Legos? Bring them down to the Central Library and let them do their thing! Bricks are provided (though they are always happy for donations as well)! Central Library, 3-4pm. Free, nwkidsmagazine.com/events
