Howloween

Had enough zombies, ghosts and goblins? Then spend this Halloween at the Oregon Zoo! This Howloween tradition provides a fun, safe way to celebrate Halloween. Your little costumed trick-or-treaters can spend the day engaged in activities that will teach them about wildlife and habitats from around the world. The scavenger hunt will lead them all throughout the zoo and to stations where they can collect treats and prizes. In honor of our animal friends, the zoo will provide only deforestation-free candy. Best for ages 2-12, though all are welcome. Free with admission, oregonzoo.org

2016 Mushroom Festival

Sure, Halloween’s all well and good, but maybe you’re thinking, “What about the mushrooms?” For some of us, fall is all about foraging for fungi! This weekend hosts the Mushroom Festival, which is a totally awesome family event where you can feast your eyes on the west coast’s largest mushroom exhibit. There will also be hayrides, live music, a scarecrow competition, apple pressing, kids’ activities, delicious food and wine and much more. Don’t miss the culinary demonstrations where you will see just what those mushrooms can do in the kitchen. Putting the “fun” in “fungus,” friends! Kids 12 and under free, suggested donation of $8, mountpisgaharboretum.com
