Rock and Gem Show

To kick things off for the Earth Day celebrations, the Mt. Hood Rock Club is showcasing their annual Rock and Gem Show at the Jackson Armory all weekend. Learn of all the beauty and uses the earth provides us through rocks and minerals, and become fascinated with fossils. Earth Day Festival 2016

Head to Normandale Park in Northeast this weekend for one of the country’s largest community-organized Earth Day celebrations. The family-friendly festival features live music, speakers, kids’ activities, volunteer opportunities and a procession of the species parade. Attendees can also browse booths from sustainable businesses and organizations, from organic kombucha, produce and chocolate to acupuncture and bicycle repair. Free, cityrepair.org

The Fambly Ramble

Red Yarn (Andy Ferguson) is one of Portland’s favorite performers. This Saturday he’ll be debuting songs from his new album, “Wake Up & Sing,” at McMenamin’s Mission Theater. He gets both kids and adults participating in his shows, as his much draws from the American songbook of folk music. Safe Routes to School Walk + Roll Fair

Kelly Elementary School will play host for a family event to celebrate the outdoors, which highlights walking, biking, and springtime! This event has always been a family favorite. It includes a bike rodeo, gardening with Playworks and a community bike ride at 1pm (bring your own bike or borrow one at the event). And, the first 120 people will be treated to lunch at noon. Celebrate Arbor + Earth Day

In relation to Earth Day weekend, National Arbor Day is on April 29. So, the Old Town Arts & Culture Foundation is putting on an event at the Portland Saturday Market in order to celebrate the importance of trees. The event will feature live music, activities which teach kids painting and decorating skills, social media contests and the first 100 people to visit the info booth will receive a free Costal Redwood sapling.
