Raise Your Hand and Say Yes!  A Winter Family Concert at the Village Ballroom

The Not Its
 The Not Its

For more than six years now, Seattle-based The Not-Its! have rocked kids and families with their uptempo albums and live concerts. These high-jumping performers give children their first “rock show” experience. With the release of their fifth album, Raise Your Hand, this Seattle “Kindie Rock” quintet  has risen to become one of the top touring bands in the nation’s “kindie” music movement.

Portland’s own kindie-rock band The Alphabeticians will be opening up the show at the Village Ballroom.

The Not-Its! gave been hailed by USA Today for their “Smart, catchy children’s music.”  Time Out New York recommends their “90s power-punk sound with lush, four-part pop harmonies that will take parents back to their show-going days.”

Indeed, this high-jumping and playful band has performed at various Portland venues before, including Mississippi Pizza, Rox in Sox and the Arlene Schnitzer concert hall for the Yo Gabba Gabba Live show. This is a true mom-and-pop band, whose lead singer Sarah Shannon is well known for her work with the 90s rock group Velocity Girl. Drummer Michael Welke also played with Harvey Danger, and band mates Danny Adamson, Tom Baisden, Jennie Helman can all boast of past lives as touring rock stars. Today, these parent-rockers often get together with their kids, even when they’re not rehearsing or creating new songs.  The Not-Its! are part of a creative collaborative group known as the Seattle Kindiependent (along with Caspar Babypants and Recess Monkey), and their distributor, Burnside Distribution, is based here in Portland.

Earlier this year, The Not-Its! traveled to Brooklyn, NY to record a song at Converse Rubber Tracks studio. The resulting song “Bring Your Friends” is featured on the new 7″ vinyl release (with Secret Agent 23 Skidoo), which is also available as a digital download on Bandcamp: http://thenot-its.bandcamp.com/album/split-7-single-with-secret-agent-23-skidoo

The new vinyl release and other music will be available for sale at the Portland concert.
