We’ve all heard that generosity pays. Helping others makes our community stronger and makes us feel good. PDX Diaper Bank has a new way for community members to positively impact the lives of children and families in Portland.
The “Power of 10” is the diaper bank’s new monthly donation program. Every individual who pledges to donate $10 or more each month to support local children and families in need will be entered into a monthly prize drawing.
“We wanted to develop a program that recognizes and rewards our donors for their generosity,” says Rachel Alston, president & founder of PDX Diaper Bank. “After all, without our amazing donors, fulfilling the mission of PDX Diaper Bank wouldn’t be possible.”
How does the “Power of 10” work exactly?
The idea behind the program is that for many people, $10 a month isn’t a huge amount of cash- it buys a few coffees or a lunch out. However, for a low-income family, $10 can mean the difference between having diapers for their baby or running out of diapers before the end of the month.
“I’ve heard countless stories about desperate caregivers padding their baby’s diapers with paper towels or simply dumping the waste and re-using diapers over and over again,” says Rachel Alston. “It isn’t just about $10, it is about our collective effort to protect the health of children in our community.”
PDX Diaper Bank is a nonprofit organization that provides free diapers and diapering supplies to low-income and homeless families with children, older adults, and individuals with disabilities living in Portland and the surrounding areas.
