Oregon Children’s Theatre’s Fly Guy: The Musical Soars
Fly Guy: The Musical, performed by Oregon Children’s Theatre, was a blast to watch. It had lots of entertaining aspects, like singing, dancing and fun costumes. Fly Guy and the rest of the cast gave an enthusiastic performance.
The story begins with Guy, a lonely fly who wants to change his life. Meanwhile, there is a boy named Buzz who finds a flier for “The Amazing Pet Show,” but he doesn’t have a pet. When Buzz hears that his family is planning to go to the beach together, he gathers all of his gear and is ready to find a pet.
That’s when Fly Guy and Buzz meet. When Buzz asks Fly Guy if he would be his new pet, Fly Guy accepts. This amazing friendship starts with secretly going to school together, playing with each other outside, and introducing Fly Guy to all of Buzz’s friends. After a while, Buzz’s school decides to take the kids on a field trip to the factory next door.
When they arrive, a new girl starts school and joins the field trip. She is nervous, but Buzz helps her. He tries to make conversation by asking about flies, and she says she has a pet fly too! The excitement begins when the class figures out that their destination is a fly swatter factory. Oh no, a fly swatter factory! What’s going to happen to Fly Guy and Fly Girl?
While this musical targets younger audiences, we enjoyed the play ourselves, and noticed older adults having a fun time, as well. We loved how everyone laughed together and clapped together. It felt as if the story was happening right in front of us.
