October 2017 CoverSweet relief! Fall is here, and putting together this October issue has filled us with the hearty spirit of the season. Here in the lush, abundant Pacific Northwest, dozens of area farms transform into wonderlands of fun and adventure – it’s not just hayrides and pumpkin patches anymore, it’s apple slingshots, pumpkin cannons, obstacle courses and tons more! Our Pumpkin Patch Guide on p. 12 details our favorites. It’s also time to think about next school year (oh boy); our Annual Schools Open House Guide, with its colorful and easy to read chart format, and expert tips on first-time preschool prep should get you pointed in the right direction. And finally, this month’s issue is a bittersweet one for me, as it’s my last one with NW Kids. Being a part of our tight-knit team since March 2010, then taking the editorial helm six years later, has been an indelible experience in knowing, supporting and growing the local Portland business and family community. I have been so inspired by the entrepreneurial fabric of our city; my time at NW Kids has been instrumental in allowing me to dream big enough to start and run my own small business, and now it’s time to pass the buck. Melissa Kniazeva comes to us from Portland Family and brings with her all the knowledge and enthusiasm that you’ve come to expect from our little corner! Thank you, so much, for reading and being with us. It’s been incredible. See you around, Karel
