We love Dr. Seuss, so it was no surprise we jumped at the opportunity to see NWCT’s production of Seussical. With two excited little gals in tow we were escorted to our seats and off to see the show. From the opening scene with the fabulously funny Cat in the Hat played by NWCT mainstay John Ellingson, the kids were laughing and completely taken in by the colorful cast of characters, music, singing and dancing. I could barely pry my two theater goers from my lap to their seats because they were so thoroughly engaged.
The Seussical plot line follows a veritable mash up of characters from the Dr.
Seuss books on a mission to save the tiniest of people. The Cat in the Hat guides Horton the Elephant and Gertrude McFuzz, who grows more tail feathers than she can count, among many others, through the tiny land of Who-Ville and the Jungle of Nool. The audience seemed to enjoy every bit of this production. With monkeys swinging from Seussian trees and vines, the set and energetic performances were perfect for our squirmy little people under age 5. The funny characters flying through the aisle and the comic flavor of the story were just the whimsy they needed on a grey February afternoon. The length of the production was just right too, with an intermission to allow for a quick trip to the bathroom and enough time to grab a cookie, (a big bonus for the kiddos).
We would highly recommend Seussical. Fans of Dr. Seuss or not, children and adults of all ages can find something to love about the story and the wonderment that comes from the imagination of Theodore Giesel and his vast array of amazing characters. Our kids loved it and yours will, too.
