This year, Hanukkah begins on the evening of December 25th. We’ve rounded up a short list of events to help build community, learn something new, shop for gifts, or enjoy some delicious bites.



Chanukah 1800

4-5:30pm, Free

First Night in Pioneer Square Join for Portland’s premier Chanukah celebration, First Night in Pioneer Square. Enjoy an evening filled with joy, warmth, and connection, featuringlive music, hot latkes, and the glow of the Chanukah candles. Registration is required at Chanukah1800.com.

Celebrate Hanuka’s First Night with Chinese Dinner, Latkes and Light: A Community Celebration at Gesher

4:00 PM, Suggested donation, $18 per adult, $45 max per family. No one is turned away for inability to make this contribution.

Bundle up and come to our heated tent, and we’ll have a feast of latkes and homemade Chinese food.  We will fire up the pizza oven for latkes and cook latkes in it and build a bonfire, weather permitting..  After all, this is the celebration of light in a season of darkness.

Gesher is always celebrating the miracle of the Jewish people that has been transmitted from generation to generation with angst and joy all the way to us.  Now, that’s really a miracle, when you think about it! Come prepared for the weather. We welcome you to bring your own Hanukiya.

Vancouver Hanukkah Celebration

4-5pm at the Vancouver Waterfront

Chabad Jewish Center invites the community to celebrate the first night of Chanukah with the lighting of the 19-foot Grand Menorah. Free donuts will be served and attendees will also enjoy music and a fire dancer.

PJC’s Chinese Dinner and a Movie: The Dumpling Strikes Back

PJC invites you to our second annual Chinese Dinner and a Movie event on 12/25/24 at Xing Ding Dumpling House in Downtown Portland, 6-10:30 pm, $19 per ticket.

We will be watching Mufasa: The Lion King, where orphaned cub Mufasa meets Taka, a sympathetic heir to a royal bloodline, sparking a journey with a group of misfits searching for their destinies.

Kabbalat Shabbat in Chanukah: a SHIR Joy! Event

6-8pm at Congregation Beth Israel

An evening of music and light featuring musical virtuosi organist Bruce Neswick and trumpeter Aaron Kahn. Celebrate the radiance and resonance of the holiday as we light the third candle together.

This program is part of SHIR Joy!, our yearlong music and cultural celebration of Cantor Ida Rae Cahana in her retirement year.

P’nai Or Chanukah Party

5pm – 8 pm at Hillsdale Community Church, FREE

Everyone is invited to the P’nai Or Chanukah party Enjoy latkes, an all-ages dreidel tournament, menorah lighting, music, a member art auction, and storytelling for the little ones. Please send your name and number of attendees to admin@pnaiorpdx.org.


Light Up The Night: A Hanukkah Dance Party!

5:30-11pm at Leikam Brewing

Get ready to dance the night away as we kick off an unforgettable evening featuring a talk on the dreidel’s mysterious history, facilitated dreidel games, communal Havdalah and Menorah lighting, followed by an epic dance party with DJs fCD and Bambi spinning global beats from Mediterranean disco to electro-klezmer. Don your festive jumpsuit/ugly sweater, bring your light-up accessories, and enjoy specialty Hanukkah cocktails. Come immerse in a celebratory evening where tradition meets groove, sacred meets silly, and ritual and revelry unite under the glow of holiday candles! Bartenders will be standing by with specialty Hanukkah-themed cocktails and mocktails for purchase.



CNS Chanukah Party: Light the Night, Be a Blessing

3-5pm at Congregation Neveh Shalom, $15 per person

Let’s gelt together for a lively afternoon of Chanukah celebration! Don’t miss the fun as our CNS kehillah comes together for an afternoon brimming with joy, connection, and festive spirit for all ages.
There’s something for everyone: Latke bar, games, crafts, cookie-decorating, music, community candle-lighting, and more! $15/person

Klezmer and Chanukah Music at Mississippi Pizza

Jack (Yankl) Falk is a Klezmer and Eastern European scholar and performer, well known to local audiences as vocalist/clarinetist with the Carpathian-Pacific Express. For this, the 6th evening of Chanukah, Yankl and his friends present Hanukkah and Klezmer songs for adults and children.  Tonight’s ensemble includes Andrew Ehrlich (violin), Eric Stern (accordion/oud), and Ross Fish (bass).

Join the Portland Israeli Dance community for a night of music, dance, celebration and sufganiyot (jelly donuts). As we head into the darkest time of the year, we will light Chanukah candles, sing songs, and dance together. During the evening, Donna will lead us in classic and current dances that bring light into our lives.

All are welcome: beginners through advanced, kids and adults of all ages. Not a dancer? No worries, we will teach you a few basic steps at 7:30pm.

“A Great Miracle Happened There”—let’s dance together and hope for more miracles to come.
