Hanukkah Celebration Roundup!
It’s time the time of year to celebrate Hanukkah and we’ve collected some of the Portland-area’s family-oriented events to satisfy the young and old alike. Enjoy candle lighting, latkes, dreidel, and more at many of these events in celebration of the 8 days of Hanukkah! While the majority of these events are free, please be sure to check out the link for more information about cost, donations being requested, and to RSVP.
December 6
Neveh Shalom’s Chanukah Festival
Head over to Congregation Neveh Shalom and celebrate with kids ages 0-12. They will enjoy creating a menorah, making sufganiyot (jelly donuts), playing dreidel, storytime, play are, music and dancing. This event is free and open to children and their families.

Grand Menorah Lighting & Community Chanukah Celebration
The Chabad Jewish Center in Vancouver, Washington invites you to a community-wide Chanukah celebration and public grand menorah lighting at Esther Short Park. There will be an ice menorah carving, laser light show, children’s craft, and food. This event is free and open to everyone in the community.

First Night Chanukah Party!
This event, sponsored by P’nai Or & Mikdash, will provide an evening of fun. There will be a bonfire, storytelling, bonfire, candle lighting, sauna, music, sufganiot desert. While this event is free, you’ll want to bring money to play the Dreidel game and buy chocolate for a good cause.

The Ultimate Chanukah Party
Fresh fried latkes will abound, as will music, crafts, and activities for kids and adults. A light supper will be served, and we will have a community candle lighting for this second night of Chanukkah. This event is $5 for children, $7 for adults, and $20 for families.

Eric Kimmel Chanukah Storytime
Green Bean Books and PJ Library Portland welcome local Portland author Eric Kimmel as he leads a special Hanukkah Story Time. Invite your family and friends and share this festive moment. This event is free and open to children and their families.

Night of 100 Hanukiyot
Calling all 6th-8th Graders! Celebrate Hanukkah with your friends and community as we eat, learn, and create together! A project of the Jewish Federation of Greater Portland with support from PAJE and planned by Congregation Neveh Shalom, Beth Israel, and Shaarie Torah, USY, OJCYF, NFTY, NCSY and BBYO. This event is free and open to children and their families.

Neveh Shalom’s Chanukah Party
Toilet paper is a basic necessity, yet a economic burden for many in our area. Bring your multi-pack and help make a giant TP menorah that will later be donated to Neighborhood House! Music and entertainment, chanukiah lighting and a latke dinner. This event is $15-$18 for adults, $9 for children, and a maximum of $48 per family.

Maccabee’s Celebration: A Chanukah Adventure
Join the Shaarie Torah community for a fun-filled Chanukah celebration. There will be games for all ages, including creating edible Chanukah hors d’oeuvres, Chanukah bean bag toss, bobbing for donuts, Maccabee races and so much more! There will even be cocktails for the adults. This event is open to the community.

Beth Israel Chanukah Family Festival
Come out for this wonderful celebration featuring latkes, donuts, and dancing. You’ll want to bring along seven candles and a donation of cooking oil for Lift Urban Portland. This event is open to everyone.

Kol Shalom Hanukkah Fête
Join this festive fun Hanukkah celebration. It will include a children’s performance, dreidel spinning, singing, group Menorah lighting, jelly doughnuts, and latkes. This event is free and open to the community.

Hanukkah Celebration with Shir Tikvah
Celebrate with Shir Tikvah by lighting candles and munching on mini-latkes, gelt, and doughnuts. Test your wits with Jewpardy and be the last person standing in the Ultimate Dreidel Smackdown. There is an $18 cost per family. Reservations are required for this event and can be made by emailing rsvp@shirtikvahpdx.org with your full name, address, and number of attendees.

Latke Fest
This celebration will feature Barry Deutsch as a special guest speaker. The speaker will regale the community with stories from 3 graphic novels and will dazzle with his artistic talents, promising to be an evening of food and fun. Pre-purchase any of this writer’s three books and get a personalized cartoon with your purchase. This event is free and open to all.

Kugel Bakeoff
Kugel or Keegal? Enter your best recipe for this fun contest and vote for your favorite! Non-kosher entries are even being accepted. Get your kugel in by 6:15p the day of the event. Judging and tasting to take place starting at 6:30p. This event is open to the entire community.
