The Fambly Ramble returns for fall series
It’s about that time again! After three stellar sold-out shows in spring, Red Yarn and company are kicking off another installment of the Fambly Ramble on Sunday, Sept 25 at McMenamins Mission Theater.
The concert series, featuring nationally acclaimed kindie performances, will feature music from Portland’s very own Red Yarn and another Pacific Northwest favorite, Seattle’s Recess Monkey!
Andy Ferguson, Red Yarn’s creator, performs around 250 concerts every year, teaching traditional folklore music and puppetry to thousands of those in the younger generation.
His most recent album, Wake Up & Sing, was released in April 2016. Its 11 songs offer moods for any time of day, coaxing listeners through a journey of gentle melodies and sunny, springier sounds.
If you’ve seen Furgeson play his Red Yarn show live, it’s easy to see why the kindie rockers, as well as their parents, enjoy his tunes. He knows exactly how to engage with his young audience and find ways for them to participate through simple, playful and familiar lyrics. Just read the first verse from one of his latest songs — and one of our favorites — “I Had a Rooster.”
“I had a rooster and the rooster pleased me/ I fed my rooster on a greenberry tree/ The little rooster went, “Cock-a-lee-doodly/ Doodly, doodly, doodly, do.”
Red Yarn will be joined by Recess Monkey, a Seattle kids’ band whose album “Novelties” was recently released through Amazon Music. The trio of elementary school teacher-musicians — Jack Forman (vocals, bass), Drew Holloway (lead vocals, guitar) and Korum Bischoff (drummer) – make quirky rock and pop music for families all over the nation.
Time Out New York named them as one of the top three family music bands in America due to their playful wordplay and their ability to capture the most intimate child-friendly moments.
Due to the high demand this series had in spring (three sold-out shows!) and the talent featured in this particular show, we highly suggest getting your tickets early. They’re only $10 in advance and $12 at the door, with minors permitted with a parent or guardian and babies in arms are free!
