Portland, OR – The Oregon Humane Society’s Education Department is seeking young artists and writers with a humane vision to enter the 2013 Be Kind to Animals Poster and Photo/Story Contest. Last year more than 2,500 entries were submitted by students throughout the state. The event is now in its 64th year.

Who Can Enter:

Any Oregon student in grades 1 through 12.

Grade-level Themes:

Each grade has a specific theme illustrating a valuable humane lesson such as: the importance of giving your pet a license and I.D. tag; choose the right pet for you; pets are family members, and more. Students can enter posters that illustrate the themes or a written story.

Information & Entry Forms:

Information brochures/entry forms can be downloaded online at www.oregonhumane.org/Services/contests.asp..  Brochures are also available at the OHS shelter, 1067 NE Columbia Blvd, Portland, OR. There is no entry fee.

Deadline:

All entries must be received by or postmarked no later than March 22, 2013.

Prizes:

Prizes will be awarded to the top four winners in each grade level. The Grand prize and runner-up will be chosen from the first place winner in each grade level. The Grand Prize winner receives a laptop computer; the runner-up winner receives a e-reader tablet. All winners will also receive a special award certificate, ribbon of honor and an invitation to the A’Cat’Emy Awards. All event winners along with their families and teachers will be invited to attend the Annual A’Cat’Emy Awards.
