8 Pumpkin Patches You’ll Love this Fall
It’s officially fall, y’all! Not just on the calendar, but in the weather, on the trees and most importantly, in my heart. Each of these family farms are celebrating harvest like the champs they are. Expect hayrides, tractor pulls, farm stands, corn mazes, caramel apples and at least one pumpkin in the crook of each arm when visiting these autumnal jubilees. Also expect to make heartwarming family memories and take heartwarming family Instagrams (#awww). Now let’s round up the kids, put on their scarves and go celebrate another successful Pacific Northwest harvest.
The Pumpkin Patch – Sauvie Island
Arguably Portland’s favorite pumpkin patch, The Maize is legendary among Portland’s pumpkin spice sipping, cardigan sweater wearing fall devotees. The multi-acre farm features hayrides, a petting zoo, a hay maze for little walkers as well as the massive corn maze whose yearly designs are always a gift. 16511 NW Gillihan Rd, Portland, thepumpkinpatch.com
Bella Organic – Sauvie Island
Bella Organic has a great, celebratory vibe when fall comes around. It’s obvious why; when harvest season is in full swing, Bella Organic offers up not just a corn maze, a vast organic farm store and a dense, vibrant pumpkin patch, but a farm stand cafe on the weekends and the occasional visit from the Voodoo Donuts Truck. 16205 NW Gillihan Rd, Portland, bellaorganic.com
Kruger’s Farm – Sauvie Island
Sauvie Island is rife with fall spectacle. At Kruger’s Farm you can visit their corn maze, shop their exceptional farm stand (their Lombard outpost is a North Portland institution) and turn loose the kiddos in their vast pumpkin patch. They also offer a little something called the Corn Maze Cabaret, which spotlights fire dancers, musicians and more. 17100 NW Sauvie Island Rd, Portland, krugersfarm.com
Fazio Farms – NE Portland
Eastside Portland proper has a corn maze and pumpkin patch of its very own at Fazio Farms. With 6.5 acres of labyrinthine corn, a generous hay maze for the younger kids, a petting zoo and a bouncy slide, Portland east-siders may not need to travel too far for their fall festivities. 8433 NE Fazio Way, Portland, faziofarms.com
Plumper Pumpkin Patch and Tree Farm – NW Portland
Travel far enough along Cornelius Pass and you’ll eventually land on a 65-acre parcel of dairy-farm-turned-pumpkin-patch named Plumper Pumpkins. Their farm store, hayrides, tube slides and grain jump play area make it the perfect farm to visit with rambunctious kiddos. Weekend extras include face painting, pumpkin bowling and pony rides. 11453 NW Old Cornelius Pass Rd, Portland, plumperpumpkins.com
Wooden Shoe Pumpkin Fest – Woodburn
Woodburn is home not just to the greatest outlet mall this side of the Cascades, but also to the annual Wooden Shoe Pumpkin Fest. This fall festival has a down-home-carnival kind of vibe with tube slides, horse swings, duck races, practice archery, hayrides/cow-trains and climbing structures for kids. The farm also offers a great roster of interactive farm activities for those of us with little 4-H clubbers. 33814 S Meridian Rd, Woodburn, woodenshoe.com
Flower Farmer – Canby
Every fall, this family farm puts a Great Pumpkin façade on one of the small trains that runs through the acreage. This big pumpkin hauls visitors through their gorgeous orchard, fields of flowers and a European vegetable garden before landing at their pumpkin patch. The farm is lovely, but make no mistake, you go to Flower Farmer to ride the Phoenix and Holly railroad, because pumpkin hunting is just sweeter when you’re traveling via miniature train. 2512 N Holly, Canby, flowerfarmer.com
Lee Farms – Tualatin
Just a few of the offerings at the Lee Farms Harvest Festival: a respectable 4 acre corn maze*, hayrides, barrel wagon rides, pony rides*, multiple hay mazes, a bounce pillow and face painting*. The farm store serves up steamy ciders and bakery items and the petting zoo will thrill little animal lovers, but possibly the most exciting detail of this family farm are their specially cultivated pumpkin pie pumpkins, which they’re quick to brag about (with good reason). Carving pumpkins for the kids, baking pumpkins for the ‘rents and apple cider donuts for everyone. Happy fall! (* – weekends only) 21975 SW 65th Ave, Tualatin, leefarmsoregon.com
