SOLVE IT for Earth Day is Oregon’s largest Earth Day service event: pick up litter, remove invasive plants, and plant native trees and shrubs at more than 33 sites across Portland. Find a project in your own neighbourhood and make a difference. Great for all ages and ability levels.

Earth Day Okonomiyaki Party/Growing Gardens Benefit

Time: Two seatings, at 5:30pm and 8:30pm
Location: Slappy Cakes, 4246 SE Belmont St

Age: 5+
Guests big and little will learn how to make a giant cabbage and noodle-loaded pancake, known as okonomiyaki, using Slappy Cakes’ signature tabletop griddles and end with Japanese shave ice. Local farmers will be among the eaters trying their hand at the griddle and sharing their stories throughout the meal. Proceeds benefit Growing Gardens, working to give every community member the knowledge and empowerment to grow their own food.

Children Take Over the City

Children Take Over the City is an event for families and early childhood educators across Portland. In conjunction with the March for Science and Earth Day, everyone is invited to enjoy the interactive play areas, project exhibitions and documentation pieces set up in the square. Several of the projects will focus around caring for the Earth and planting trees, as well standing up for one’s beliefs and the importance of science.

Join us for the Earth Day Spring Festival at the Learning Gardens Laboratory to celebrate the growing season and the incredible work and learning that happens at the Learning Gardens Laboratory. This annual festival will include free food, live music, kids activities, plant sales, raffle prizes, games, workshops, garden tours and more. Kids will plant seeds in recycled containers to take home, play “Giant Jenga” and do Animal Yoga. Don’t forget to bring your bicycle for a free tune-up!

Earth Day falls during Design Week this year, so come experience Sustainable Design speakers, movies, activities and music in the 13,000 square foot facility.
