2 Hours in Bethany
In our blog series “2 Hours In,” we give you tips on how to make the most of Portland’s vibrant, character-filled neighborhoods… in 2 hours or less. (Or more! Stay as long as you want!)
Bethany’s location on the eastern edge of Washington County leads many to assume it’s Beaverton or Hillsboro, but it’s not. In this thriving suburban section of unincorporated Portland, there’s more than enough to keep you and your little ones busy.
Micro Restaurants
Hit up Bethany shopping center for the suburbs’ answer to food carts: Micro restaurants. These tiny storefronts turn out dishes like mouthwatering grilled cheese, Asian fusion bowls and burritos, spicy fried chicken, and much more. With lots of outdoor seating, there’s something for everyone.
Trails & Parks
Take the Rock Creek Trail, a paved biking, jogging or walking path that follows a wetland green space.
Stop at the Pirate Park for some slide and swing time, or continue on past West Union and 185th to Bethany Lake. Kids and adults can fish or just watch the waterfowl. Be on the lookout for two bald eagles that have a nest nearby.
If you’re looking to escape the suburbs, Bethany is Forest Park’s unofficial back door and many trailheads like Germantown, Newton and Newbery are easily accessible within a short drive.
Piccolo Mondo
Browse or shop one of the cutest toy stores anywhere. Piccolo Mondo has a great selection of unique toys and a board game lending library so you can try before you buy. Check out their calendar of events for kids and families including weekly reading time.
Public Art
Stroll the campus at Portland Community College, Rock Creek, and check out the public art that dots the campus. Download an interactive map to help you locate all the sculptures, etchings and ceramics.
