2 Hours, 4 Hours or a Day at Wilson River

The Wilson River Footbridge Day Use Area on Highway 6 lies halfway between Tillamook and Highway 26 at mile marker 20. Deep pools and easy rapids welcome swimmers, jumpers and floaters. The beach consists of everything from small gravel to large rocks, but there are plenty of comfortable spots to spread out.

Whether you have a few hours, or all day, just pull into the day use parking lot (no fee required), grab your gear, and take the short trail down to the river and get ready to relax.

Dip your feet or swim over to the cliff and find a ledge to jump into the deep part of the river. (Be sure to check to make sure it’s safe before you jump.) There are plenty of big rocks on the shore that are perfect for laying out and drying off.

A short hike upriver is a great place to put your tube in and let the current take you down the river. Towards the end of the season, the water might be a little low and getting over the rapids without a few rocky butt bumps might be difficult. The footbridge is a good place to get out and make the trek back up river. If you’ve got good water shoes, make sure you wear them. The rocks can be hot and unforgiving.

Arrive early to stake out a spot on the main beach. You’ll want some shade, so set up your canopy, umbrellas or tents where you can keep an eye on swimmers. Cooking fires and charcoal briquettes are not allowed, so you’ll want to fill your cooler with enough to keep everyone filled and happy for the day. Then just sit back and watch the fun unfold.
